Homemade Valentine’s

23 Jan

I love Valentine’s Day… I know I’m one of those sappy people that has fallen victim to Hallmark, but I don’t care :).  I love to celebrate those we love and if I GET a designated day to do it, then by all means!  One thing I do think is important is to teach my children to tell people how they feel…  For this reason I INSIST that they make their own Valentines every year.  We have not even DISCUSSED what they want to do this year, but in the mean time, I’ll share some of our past favorites!

My boys made these before they were even in preschool… We just gave each of our neighbor friends sand buckets and shovels…   Easy and cute for little ones!

When the bigs were in preschool I cut hearts out of white paper, they wrote their names in sharpie,  and then they water painted them for their friends.  This is one of my favorites- I think I might bring it back this year for Sanders.

Penguins are always a hit!  Sutton is a huge penguin fan so making a penguin box and valentines was a must!!!

Valentine you’re GRRRRREAT!

These were the ones we made last year… Sometimes I wish I didn’t have a blog because then I could reproduce these ideas each year :).

Last year we gave fun little soup bowls from Pier One to our teachers with a bag of fancy soup mix and this little note… If you click on the PDF you can print your own!

Valentine, YOU ROCK!

Here is a sneak peak of Sutton’s Valentines, he of course wanted Valentine Guitars… He’s still working on writing his friends names and his “catch phrase” – YOU ROCK!  Just wanted to give you a peak incase you’re looking for a last minute idea :).  I’ll post Shaeffer’s soon too!

Penguin Valentines

9 Feb

Sutton has been working for days on making his classmates each a little penguin Valentine.  You see it is my FIRM belief that my boys should make their Valentines as long as absolutely possible.  I know the day will come when they will want to buy some crazy karate guy valentine that says “I get a kick out of you” or something like that, but for now, we are going the homemade route.  Last year we made owls, the year before that we made shovels that said “I dig you”.  This year Sutton is making penguins (Shaeffer’s will be posted next-oh the suspense).

On the back of these cuties Sutton wrote “You’re Cool” and then signed his name.  We are foregoing candy or any gifts this year, for the pure simplicity of a hand made valentine!

Here’s the scoop:  You can probably figure these guys out just by looking at them.  We cut out circles and hearts and used construction paper crayons for the face..  We glued them all together with glue sticks and TADA…  My favorite part is that each one is a little different!  Good Job Sutton!
